Our Story Dzimbadzemabwe
Stonehouse Sculptures was established to provide a broader audience for Zimbabwean artisans, offering a platform to showcase their creations while they do what they do best. The company's name is inspired by the Shona term "Dzimbadzemabwe," which translates to "Stone Houses." This pays homage to Great Zimbabwe, a historical medieval city constructed in the 11th century by stacking granite stones without the use of mortar. The ruins of this city continue to stand to this day.
As practised for centuries, the same history, artistry, and craftsmanship still run within us as passed down by our ancestors. Artisans continue to carve artifacts using natural stone to create beautiful finishes and sculptures unlike any other in the world. Through our close collaboration with renowned local artists, we have not only gained access to unique and authentic Shona sculptures but have also cultivated a profound understanding of personal narratives and the dynamics of teamwork. We have access to various Shona sculptors and artisans from around the country who create monumental artworks that deserve to be shared on the global stage. Our Sculptures & crafts encompass a diversity of styles, including figurative and abstract art, relevant to enhancing the aesthetics of interior spaces and landscapes. With every sculpture telling a story behind its creation, clients can decipher how each piece resonates with them on an individual level.
